NURSE AT YSGOL PENMAES
At Penmaes we have a full time qualified nurse and a full time nursing support assistant, both of whom are available on the school site during the school day.  They coordinate all medical aspects of our children's care including administration of medication.

PHYSIOTHERAPY
There is a physiotherapy team based at Penmaes, working to help children to reach their potential in the areas of mobility, function and independence.  The level of physiotherapy will be agreed between parents, staff and the therapists.  Individual programmes are drawn up to meet the needs of the pupil.  In addition to Physiotherapy other professionals including Occupational Therapists and Orthotics regularly visit school.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY SERVICE
For those pupils that have communication difficulties, the Speech and Language team offers support at Penmaes.  An initial assessment will identify the short and long term goals for pupils and by working closely with all staff members, the best way forward can be agreed.  Communication is a vital part of a childs development and independence, a number of communication programmes are widely used at Penmaes.  A number of alternative communication approaches are used at Penmaes including Makaton, symbols and communication aides.
